Preparation
- Gather all your ingredients. Make sure your crushed tomatoes are ready, and the garlic is minced to avoid lumps in your sauce.
Cooking
- In a medium skillet, heat the 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.
- Once the oil is shimmering, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until it’s fragrant. Be careful not to burn it!
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes until well combined.
- Sprinkle in the dried oregano, dried basil, and add salt and pepper to taste. If you like a hint of sweetness, mix in the optional tablespoon of sugar.
- Reduce the heat to low and let your sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Before using, taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Your homemade pizza sauce is now ready to spread over your favorite dough!
Notes
Consider using fresh herbs during summer for added depth. This sauce can be refrigerated for about 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat gently to preserve flavors.
