  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Helps prevent browning.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Optional for added warmth.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Start by washing and chopping the green apples into small pieces.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped apples and water. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  3. Once boiling, stir in the sugar and lemon juice.
  4. Lower the heat and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. If desired, stir in the ground cinnamon at this stage.
  6. Remove from heat and strain the syrup using a fine mesh strainer or cheese cloth.
  7. Allow the syrup to cool before sealing in a jar.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks. Can be frozen for up to 6 months.
