Preparation
- In a small bowl, mix the warm water and sugar. Add the active dry yeast and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a larger mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Pour the frothy yeast mixture and warm milk into the dry ingredients. Stir until you achieve a smooth batter.
- Cover the mixing bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for about an hour in a warm place.
Cooking
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little butter.
- Using a crumpet ring or a round cookie cutter, pour a ladle of the batter into the ring on the skillet. Cook until holes start forming on the top, approximately 5-7 minutes.
- Flip to cook the other side for another minute or so.
- Continue the process until all your batter is used.
Serving
- Enjoy your warm crumpets right away, or store for later.
Notes
Cooking at medium-low heat helps achieve that perfect airy texture without burning. Try experimenting with different toppings based on the season!
