Preparation
- If making chocolate cake from scratch, bake according to your recipe. Once cooled, cut into cubes. If using store-bought, simply cube the cake.
- Prepare the chocolate pudding by following the instructions on the package, or whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, milk, and cornstarch on medium heat until thickened for a homemade version.
- In a glass trifle bowl or individual cups, start by adding a layer of chocolate cake cubes at the bottom.
- Top with a layer of chocolate pudding, followed by a layer of halved cherries.
- Spoon a layer of whipped cream over the cherries, then repeat layering until the bowl is full, finishing with whipped cream.
- Allow the trifle to chill in the fridge for at least an hour to meld the flavors.
- Before serving, garnish with chocolate shavings and a few fresh cherries.
- Serve with spoons and let your guests enjoy!
Notes
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For freezing, prepare layers separately and assemble just before serving.
