Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 8 ounces chocolate cake, cubed Feel free to use store-bought or homemade.
  • 2 cups fresh cherries, pitted and halved You can substitute other fruits like strawberries or blueberries.
  • 2 cups chocolate pudding Use store-bought or homemade according to preference.
  • 2 cups whipped cream Store-bought or homemade.
  • 1/4 cup cherry juice or syrup Optional, for added flavor.
  • Chocolate shavings For garnish.

Method

Preparation
  1. If making chocolate cake from scratch, bake according to your recipe. Once cooled, cut into cubes. If using store-bought, simply cube the cake.
  2. Prepare the chocolate pudding by following the instructions on the package, or whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, milk, and cornstarch on medium heat until thickened for a homemade version.
  3. In a glass trifle bowl or individual cups, start by adding a layer of chocolate cake cubes at the bottom.
  4. Top with a layer of chocolate pudding, followed by a layer of halved cherries.
  5. Spoon a layer of whipped cream over the cherries, then repeat layering until the bowl is full, finishing with whipped cream.
  6. Allow the trifle to chill in the fridge for at least an hour to meld the flavors.
  7. Before serving, garnish with chocolate shavings and a few fresh cherries.
  8. Serve with spoons and let your guests enjoy!

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For freezing, prepare layers separately and assemble just before serving.
