Preparation
- Rinse your blueberries thoroughly under cold water and remove any stems.
- In a medium-sized bowl, mash the blueberries gently with a fork until you have a chunky puree.
Cooking
- In a saucepan, combine the mashed blueberries, granulated sugar, lemon juice, and pectin. Stir well and let it sit for about 10 minutes.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a rolling boil, which should take about 5-7 minutes.
- After boiling, test the jam's consistency by placing a spoonful on a cold plate. If it thickens slightly, it’s ready to be removed from heat. If not, boil for an additional minute and check again.
- Once the jam has reached the desired thickness, pour it into sterilized jars. Seal them while the jam is still hot.
- Refrigerate any unused jam after cooling.
Serving
- Your homemade blueberry jam is now ready to be served! Spread it thickly on your favorite baked goods or use it in desserts.
Notes
For proper storage, keep it in the refrigerator for up to three weeks, or freeze for long-term storage lasting up to six months. When reheating, warm gently in a saucepan over low heat.
