Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups fresh blackberries (or frozen) Thaw frozen blackberries before use.
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice For extra zing.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch Optional for thickening.
  • 2 tablespoons cold water If using cornstarch.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by rinsing your fresh blackberries under cool running water. If using frozen, allow them to thaw a bit.
Cooking
  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the blackberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water. Stir to mix.
  2. Bring the saucepan to a gentle boil over medium heat. As the mixture heats, mash the blackberries with a fork or potato masher to release their juices.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes to concentrate the flavors while the blackberries break down.
  4. If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix the cornstarch and the cold water in a small bowl. Gradually add this mixture into the saucepan, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens.
  5. Stir in the lemon juice for an extra zing and let it cook for another minute.
  6. Once done, remove the sauce from heat and let it cool completely before transferring it to a jar or container.

Notes

Store your homemade blackberry dessert sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. For longer storage, you can freeze the sauce in ice cube trays.
