Preparation
- Start by rinsing your fresh blackberries under cool running water. If using frozen, allow them to thaw a bit.
Cooking
- In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the blackberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water. Stir to mix.
- Bring the saucepan to a gentle boil over medium heat. As the mixture heats, mash the blackberries with a fork or potato masher to release their juices.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes to concentrate the flavors while the blackberries break down.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix the cornstarch and the cold water in a small bowl. Gradually add this mixture into the saucepan, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens.
- Stir in the lemon juice for an extra zing and let it cook for another minute.
- Once done, remove the sauce from heat and let it cool completely before transferring it to a jar or container.
Notes
Store your homemade blackberry dessert sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. For longer storage, you can freeze the sauce in ice cube trays.
