Ingredients
  

For the Biscuits
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour for fluffy biscuits
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder to help the biscuits rise

  • 3/4 cup milk to moisten the dough
For the Gravy
  • 1 pound ground chicken or beef (Halal) for a savory protein
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour for thickening the gravy
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth adds depth to the gravy
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder for an extra kick
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder adds a savory note
  • Salt and pepper to taste salt and pepper essential seasonings

Method
 

Make the Biscuits
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups flour, 1 tablespoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  3. Cut in 1/2 cup butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in 3/4 cup milk until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, knead gently for about a minute, and then roll out to about 1-inch thickness.
  6. Cut out biscuits with a round cutter and place them on a baking sheet. Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until golden.
Prepare the Gravy
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook 1 pound ground chicken or beef until browned.
  2. Stir in 1/4 cup flour, coating the meat well and cooking for another minute.
  3. Gradually whisk in 2 cups of broth, stirring constantly until thickened.
  4. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Assemble and Bake
  1. In a casserole dish, layer half of the baked biscuits on the bottom.
  2. Pour half of the gravy over biscuits.
  3. Repeat with the remaining biscuits and gravy.
  4. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Notes

If you’re looking for even more flavor, consider adding sautéed mushrooms or spinach to your gravy. Timing is crucial; avoid overworking the dough. Ensure butter is well-chilled for flaky biscuits.
