Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, sage, thyme, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, and maple syrup, if using. Mix well until everything is evenly incorporated.
- With clean hands, shape the meat mixture into patties, about 1/2 inch thick. You can make them as large or small as you prefer!
Cooking
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. You won’t need much oil due to the beef fat; however, a light spritz can help prevent sticking.
- Place the sausage patties in the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until browned, then flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
- Once cooked, transfer the patties onto a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess fat.
Serving
- Serve hot and enjoy them alongside maple syrup, eggs, or toast for a hearty breakfast.
Notes
For substitutions, ground turkey or chicken works well too. Don’t rush the cooking process; allowing each side to get nice and crispy enhances the flavor. Avoid using lean cuts of beef, as some fat is necessary for moisture and flavor. Store in an airtight container and refrigerate for 3-4 days or freeze for 3 months.
