Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional) For added flavor
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it's okay if a few lumps remain.
  5. Spoon the batter into each mold of the donut pan, filling about 3/4 full.
Baking
  1. Place the pan in the oven and bake for about 8-10 minutes or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
Topping
  1. Prepare your favorite glaze or toppings while the donuts cool and dip each donut for a delightful finish.

Notes

Avoid overmixing the batter for a lighter texture. Consider experimenting with citrus zest, almond extract, or cocoa powder for flavor variations. Store in an airtight container for up to three days or freeze for up to two months.
