Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth.
- Add in the honey (or maple syrup), applesauce, and eggs to the mashed bananas and combine until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, protein powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. If desired, fold in the chocolate chips.
- Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper, then pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cooling
- Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice, serve, and enjoy!
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or wrap tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature or microwave for 20-30 seconds before serving.
