Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 cups frozen tater tots or homemade

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef along with the chopped onion and bell pepper until the beef is no longer pink and the vegetables are tender.
  3. Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, mustard, and season with salt and pepper. Let this mixture simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spread the beef mixture evenly. Top it off with the tater tots, arranging them to cover the beef mixture completely.
  5. Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, remove it from the oven, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top, and return it to the oven for another 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Once out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Consider serving your casserole with a fresh garden salad or some steamed vegetables. A side of pickles can add a refreshing crunch, and sweet corn complements the dish well. For storage, keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
