Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture, and beat until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until fully combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the greased baking pan and spread it evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
Frosting and Decoration
  1. Once cool, frost with your favorite frosting (cream cheese works well!) and top with vibrant Halloween-themed sprinkles.

For best results, soften butter at room temperature and consider chilling the dough for sturdier bars. Use parchment paper for easy removal and cleaning.
