Donut Base Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon until combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and mix in the buttermilk and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined, forming a thick batter.
Frying
  1. Heat the oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  2. Carefully spoon batter into the hot oil, forming donut shapes. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  3. Using a slotted spoon, remove the donuts and set them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  4. While still warm, glaze the donuts and decorate them with the edible toppings.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days at room temperature or up to a week in the refrigerator. Reheat in the microwave or preheated oven.
