Ingredients

For the Biscuits
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (chilled and cubed)
  • ¾ cup milk (or your choice of plant-based milk)
For the Gravy
  • 1 pound ground beef or chicken (check for Halal certification)
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Freshly chopped parsley (for garnish)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the chilled butter and rub it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Pour in the milk and mix until just combined. Do not over-mix, as this will lead to tough biscuits.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently roll it out to about 1-inch thickness. Using a biscuit cutter, cut out circles and place them on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
Gravy Preparation
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or chicken until fully cooked.
  2. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk, garlic powder, and onion powder. Bring to a simmer and let it thicken for about 5 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Serving
  1. Split the biscuits in half and ladle the gravy generously over the top. Garnish with parsley and enjoy!

Notes

For flakier biscuits, ensure your butter is cold when mixing with flour. For a vegetarian option, use plant-based sausage instead of meat, ensuring it’s Halal-certified. Avoid over-kneading the biscuit dough to maintain fluffiness.
