Ingredients
  

For the Dough
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure butter is at room temperature.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Filling
  • 1 can cherry pie filling Can be homemade or store-bought.
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in one large egg and one teaspoon of vanilla extract until fully combined.
  4. Gradually stir in one cup of all-purpose flour until smooth.
  5. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking dish.
Baking
  1. Pour the cherry pie filling over the batter evenly.
  2. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
Glazing and Serving
  1. While the bars are cooling, whisk together one cup of powdered sugar, two tablespoons of milk, and half a teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Once cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top of the bars.
  3. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat. For extra flavor, consider using almond extract.
