Ingredients

For the filling
  • 4 large onions, sliced
  • 3 pieces eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter for sautéing
  • 1 teaspoon thyme (optional) for added flavor
  • 1 cup grated cheese (optional) for topping
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For the crust
  • 1 piece pie crust store-bought or homemade

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt the tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, seasoning them lightly with salt and pepper. Sauté the onions for about 15-20 minutes until they are golden brown and caramelized.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sour cream, milk, and a pinch of salt and pepper until well combined. If you’re using thyme, add it to this mixture.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the pie crust. Pour the creamy egg mixture over the top, ensuring the onions are well-covered. If desired, sprinkle the grated cheese on top.
  2. Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 30-40 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is lightly browned.
Serving
  1. Let the pie cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For added nutrition, consider adding vegetables like spinach or mushrooms to the filling. Make sure to store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
