Preparation
- Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Season with a pinch of salt.
- In a shallow dish, add the cornstarch. Coat each shrimp evenly in the cornstarch, shaking off excess.
Cooking
- In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add shrimp in a single layer (you may need to do this in batches).
- Fry the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and just cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed, then add minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not burnt.
- Stir in the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes, bringing to a gentle boil.
- Return the shrimp to the skillet and toss them in the sauce until evenly coated and heated through, about 2-3 minutes.
- Plate your General Tso Shrimp and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Enjoy!
Notes
Adjust the red pepper flakes based on your spice tolerance; this dish can easily be tailored to your heat preference. Make sure to pat the shrimp dry before coating them with cornstarch to achieve a beautiful, crispy golden color.
