Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes Adjust to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Season with a pinch of salt.
  2. In a shallow dish, add the cornstarch. Coat each shrimp evenly in the cornstarch, shaking off excess.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add shrimp in a single layer (you may need to do this in batches).
  2. Fry the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and just cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed, then add minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not burnt.
  4. Stir in the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes, bringing to a gentle boil.
  5. Return the shrimp to the skillet and toss them in the sauce until evenly coated and heated through, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Plate your General Tso Shrimp and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Enjoy!

Notes

Adjust the red pepper flakes based on your spice tolerance; this dish can easily be tailored to your heat preference. Make sure to pat the shrimp dry before coating them with cornstarch to achieve a beautiful, crispy golden color.
