Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined (fresh or thawed)
  • 2 cups broccoli, cut into florets
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 tablespoons butter (use Halal-certified butter or ghee)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • from half a lemon lemon juice
  • fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by rinsing the shrimp under cold water and patting them dry. Cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets, and mince the garlic.
Cooking
  1. Place a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Let it warm for about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add the broccoli florets to the skillet and sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until they turn bright green and are tender-crisp. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the butter and let it melt. Once melted, add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant. Immediately add the shrimp to the skillet. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes on each side until they are pink and opaque.
  4. Once the shrimp are cooked, return the broccoli to the skillet. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon over the mixture and gently toss everything together to ensure the shrimp and broccoli are well-coated in the garlic butter sauce.
  5. Remove from heat, and garnish with fresh parsley if desired. This dish is best enjoyed immediately!

Notes

For alternatives to shrimp, consider using chicken breast or firm tofu. Ensure they are cooked through for optimal flavor and texture. Overcooking shrimp can lead to a rubbery texture; they should only take a few minutes on each side. Always ensure your skillet is properly heated before adding ingredients to achieve the perfect sear.
