Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a square 9x9 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter until it turns golden-brown with a nutty aroma, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown butter and granulated sugar until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined. If using, fold in chocolate chips.
Baking
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Be careful not to overbake.
Cooling and Serving
- Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Cut into squares and enjoy.
Notes
For storage, let brownies cool completely and place in an airtight container. They can be stored at room temperature for about 3 days or in the fridge for up to a week. For longer shelf life, freeze tightly wrapped; they’ll last for about 2 months.
