  • 1 pound kielbasa or your favorite sausage, cut into 1-inch pieces Optional; adds heartiness.

Preparation
  1. Start by chopping the onion and cabbage. If you're using sausage, cut it into bite-sized pieces.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. If you're adding sausage, place it in the skillet and cook until it's browned on all sides.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes, until they start to become translucent.
  4. Stir in the chopped cabbage and mix well with the onions. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and starts to brown.
  5. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Once the cabbage is perfectly tender, remove it from the heat and serve it warm.

Notes

Cabbage can be stored in an airtight container for 3-5 days. For freezing, do so before adding any protein and it can last up to three months.
