Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 3-4 medium medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled and chopped) Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for deeper flavor.
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Feel free to experiment with additional spices like nutmeg or cardamom.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Crust
  • 1 package pre-made pie crust (or homemade)
For Frying
  • Vegetable oil Use enough oil to cover the pies in the frying pan.
  • Powdered sugar For dusting (optional).

Method

Prepare the Filling
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss well until the apples are fully coated. Set aside to let the flavors mingle.
Roll Out the Pie Crust
  1. If using store-bought pie crust, roll it out slightly on a floured surface. Cut out rounds using a cookie cutter or a glass (about 4 inches in diameter).
Fill the Crusts
  1. Place a generous tablespoon of the apple filling onto one half of the pie round. Be careful not to overfill!
Seal the Pies
  1. Fold the other half over the filling and press the edges together to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges or your fingers for a pinched look.
Heat the Oil
  1. In a deep frying pan, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat. To check if the oil is ready, drop in a small piece of dough; it should sizzle.
Fry the Pies
  1. Carefully place a few pies in the hot oil without crowding the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown. Remove and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain.
Finish and Serve
  1. Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm and enjoy every delicious bite!

Notes

To enhance your fried apple pies, consider serving them with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze them for up to 2 months.
