Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they are golden brown and soft, about 10 minutes.
- Push the onions to one side of the skillet and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking apart the meat as it cooks.
Combining and Baking
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked rice, sautéed onions, ground beef, garlic powder, and half of the beef broth. Mix well.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch casserole dish, spreading it evenly.
- Pour the remaining beef broth over the casserole mixture. Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. This dish goes perfectly with a simple side salad or steamed vegetables.
Notes
For a finishing touch, consider adding fresh herbs or crispy fried onions on top. If using leaner ground turkey or chicken, ensure it’s halal.
