Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add the sliced onions to the skillet with the beef and cook until softened and beginning to caramelize, about 5-7 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice, beef broth, French onion soup, and the beef and onion mixture. Stir well to combine.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and spread evenly.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously over the top of the casserole.
Baking
- Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Consider topping with crispy fried onions for added texture.
Notes
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For freezing, cover tightly and it can last for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight before reheating.
