Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of self-rising flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Mix well, then add in 1 cup of Greek yogurt and stir until you form a dough. If the mixture is too sticky, sprinkle a little more flour until manageable.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Knead gently for 1-2 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and join the ends to form a circle, pressing them together.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg for the egg wash. Brush the tops of your bagels with the egg wash and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if desired.
- Place the bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before enjoying.
Notes
Store bagels in an airtight container for 1-2 days at room temperature or refrigerate for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze up to 3 months and reheat in a toaster or oven.
