Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This is important for ensuring even baking.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well to combine.
- In another bowl, cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter-sugar mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
- If you're using nuts or chocolate chips, fold them gently into the dough.
Baking
- Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake in your preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For Halal-friendly options, you can replace the unsalted butter with a plant-based alternative. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.
