Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Ensure it's levelled.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is soft for proper mixing.
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Add-ins
  • 1 cup chopped nuts Optional, choose your favorites.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or seasonal candies Optional, for added sweetness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This is important for ensuring even baking.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well to combine.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter-sugar mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
  5. If you're using nuts or chocolate chips, fold them gently into the dough.
Baking
  1. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  2. Bake in your preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  3. Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For Halal-friendly options, you can replace the unsalted butter with a plant-based alternative. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.
