Ingredients

For the filling
  • 4 pieces eggs Fresh eggs yield the best flavor.
  • 2 cups milk Use whole milk for a richer filling.
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust sweetness to your preference.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract High-quality vanilla enhances flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Balances sweetness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg Optional, but adds a lovely aroma.
For the crust
  • 1 pie crust store-bought or homemade Ensure it fits the pie dish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prep the crust: If using a store-bought crust, place it in a pie dish. If making from scratch, roll it out and fit it into the dish, pricking the bottom with a fork.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs until well combined.
  4. Pour in the milk and mix thoroughly.
  5. Stir in the sugar, vanilla extract, and salt, mixing until everything is well incorporated.
  6. Pour the mixture into the prepared pie crust.
  7. Optional: Sprinkle ground nutmeg over the custard.
Baking
  1. Place the pie in the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the custard is set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the pie cool before slicing. Serve warm or chilled.

Notes

For best results, allow the pie to cool completely before slicing. Experiment with different toppings and flavors, such as lemon zest or almond extract.
