Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the pasta shells in salted boiling water for about 8-10 minutes until al dente.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, the egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended.
Assembly
- Drain the pasta shells and cool slightly. Fill each shell with the cheese mixture.
- Spread 1 cup marinara sauce in the bottom of a baking dish. Arrange the stuffed shells on top, then pour the remaining marinara sauce over them.
- Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese on top.
Baking
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let sit for a few minutes and garnish with fresh basil before serving.
Notes
You can substitute ricotta with cottage cheese for a lighter option. Keep an eye on baking time, as it can vary by oven. Don’t overstuff the shells to avoid mess.
