Ingredients

Mochi Base
  • 1 cup sweet rice flour (mochi flour)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
Filling
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
Dusting
  • Cornstarch for dusting To prevent sticking

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by measuring out your sweet rice flour, sugar, and water. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the sweet rice flour and sugar.
  2. Gradually add the water into the bowl, stirring until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps.
Cooking
  1. Pour the mochi mixture into a heat-proof dish or steaming container. Fill a pot with water and bring it to a gentle boil. Place the dish in the pot, covering it with a lid. Steam for about 20 minutes.
  2. Once steamed, carefully remove the dish from the pot and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes.
Shaping and Serving
  1. Dust your work surface generously with cornstarch to prevent sticking. Scoop the mochi dough onto the surface and cut it into equal pieces.
  2. Flatten each piece and place a slice of strawberry in the center. Fold the mochi over the strawberry, pinching to seal.
  3. Dust the finished mochi with more cornstarch to keep them from sticking together. Your Easy Strawberry Mochi is ready to enjoy.

Notes

For substitutions, try using other fruits like blueberries or mango slices. Watch the steaming process to avoid tough mochi. If your mochi feels sticky, dust it with more cornstarch.
