Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix on medium speed until well combined, about 2 minutes.
- Carefully stir in the boiling water—the batter will be thin.
Baking
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
Assembly
- Slice the strawberries and set them aside.
- Once the cakes are cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a thick layer of chocolate frosting on top, and layer with sliced strawberries. Top with the second cake and repeat the frosting and strawberries.
Serving
- Slice the cake and serve it to your friends and family.
Notes
This recipe is beginner-friendly and can be customized with different types of sugar or frosting. Ensure the cakes are completely cool before frosting to avoid melting.
