  • 2 cups rice Use your preferred type of rice, such as basmati or jasmine.
  • 4 cups water Adjust as needed for the type of rice used.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing the onion and garlic.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Adds flavor to the dish.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Enhances the overall aroma.
  • 1 teaspoon cumin Can be substituted with curry powder.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika For added smokiness and color.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Begin by rinsing 2 cups of rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a large pot, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, stirring until they become fragrant and translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of cumin and 1 teaspoon of paprika, stirring continuously for about 1 minute.
  4. Add the rinsed rice to the pot, stirring to coat it with the spice mixture. Pour in 4 cups of water, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
  6. Turn off the heat and let the rice sit covered for another 5 minutes. Then, using a fork, fluff the rice gently.
  7. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. For longer storage, freeze in portioned containers for up to 3 months.
