Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper any color, diced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • Olive oil for cooking
Optional Garnishes
  • chopped fresh cilantro For garnish
  • avocado slices For garnish
  • sour cream For garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, drizzle a bit of olive oil.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onions are translucent and fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until fully browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the diced bell pepper and cook for an additional 3 minutes, allowing the peppers to soften.
  5. Add the drained diced tomatoes, tomato paste, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine all the ingredients, then reduce the heat and simmer for another 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Adjust seasoning as needed, and feel free to add more spices for a little extra kick!
  7. Once ready, serve your delicious Picadillo warm over rice or in tacos, garnished with fresh cilantro or avocado if desired.

Notes

For a lighter option, you can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken. Feel free to add other chopped vegetables such as carrots or peas. Let the Picadillo rest for a few minutes after cooking to enhance the flavors.
