Preparation
- In a large skillet over medium heat, drizzle a bit of olive oil.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onions are translucent and fragrant.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until fully browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the diced bell pepper and cook for an additional 3 minutes, allowing the peppers to soften.
- Add the drained diced tomatoes, tomato paste, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine all the ingredients, then reduce the heat and simmer for another 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Adjust seasoning as needed, and feel free to add more spices for a little extra kick!
- Once ready, serve your delicious Picadillo warm over rice or in tacos, garnished with fresh cilantro or avocado if desired.
Notes
For a lighter option, you can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken. Feel free to add other chopped vegetables such as carrots or peas. Let the Picadillo rest for a few minutes after cooking to enhance the flavors.
