Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Ensure it's Halal if needed.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Ensure it's Halal.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 2 pieces green onions, sliced Reserve some for garnish.
  • as needed serving cooked rice For serving.
  • as needed serving sesame seeds For garnish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by cooking your rice according to package instructions. It’s the perfect base for your beef!
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Reduce the heat to medium. Once the beef is browned, drain excess grease. Keep a bit for flavor! Add the minced garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and brown sugar to the skillet. Stir everything together, letting the sugar dissolve and the flavors meld for about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Mix in the sesame oil and sliced green onions, reserving some green onions for garnish. Cook for another minute until everything is heated through.
Serving
  1. Spoon the beef mixture over your cooked rice, garnish with sesame seeds and remaining green onions, and enjoy!

Notes

Consider using ground chicken or turkey for a leaner version. Avoid overcooking the beef for it to remain juicy. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for 2 months. Reheat in a saucepan over low heat with a splash of water if needed.
