Ingredients
  

For the crust
  • 2 pieces pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
For the filling
  • 6 to 8 pieces apples (peeled, cored, and sliced) Use a mix of tart and sweet apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp.
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Add nutmeg or allspice for extra flavor if desired.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter Cut into small pieces to dot on top of the filling.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss until apples are evenly coated.
  3. Roll out your pie crust if using homemade; place one crust in a 9-inch pie pan.
Assembling the Pie
  1. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust and spread evenly. Dot with pieces of butter.
  2. Cover with the second crust, trim excess dough, crimp edges, and cut slits for steam to escape.
Baking
  1. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  2. Reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until apples are tender and crust is golden brown.
Cooling
  1. Let the pie cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-5 days. For longer storage, wrap in plastic and foil and freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat individual slices in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes to restore crispness.
