Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef Halal-compliant
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 medium potatoes, diced
  • 1 can (4 oz) diced green chiles
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp cumin Essential for flavor
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the chopped onions and minced garlic. Sauté for about 2–3 minutes, or until the onions are translucent and fragrant.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until it’s browned and no longer pink—around 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the diced potatoes and cook for another 5 minutes, allowing them to soften slightly.
  4. Lower the heat and add the diced green chiles, beef broth, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  5. Cover the skillet and let it simmer on low heat for about 15–20 minutes, or until the potatoes are cooked through and tender.
  6. Once finished, remove from heat, garnish with fresh cilantro, and serve warm!

Notes

Substitutions: You can swap out ground beef for ground turkey or chicken. Ensure your potatoes are uniformly diced for even cooking. Don’t skip the cumin for depth of flavor.
