  • 1 cup brown sugar Divided into two portions.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Use for mixing with apples.
For the crumble topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure it's softened to mix in thoroughly.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. Place them in a large bowl and mix with half the brown sugar and a teaspoon of cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, combine the flour, oats, remaining brown sugar, and salt. Mix in the softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Assembly and Baking
  1. In a baking dish, layer the apple mixture evenly and sprinkle the crumble topping over it.
  2. Place in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes, or until the apples are bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
