Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Blend the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs with some larger pea-sized pieces remaining.
- Create a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Gently stir until just combined; be careful not to overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Using a floured biscuit cutter, cut out rounds and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in your preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with butter or your choice of toppings.
Notes
Store cooled biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10-15 minutes until warmed through.
