Preparation
- Peel the onions and slice them into about 1/4-inch thick rings. To separate the rings, gently push them apart.
- In one bowl, place the all-purpose flour seasoned with salt and pepper. In a second bowl, whisk the eggs. In the third bowl, add the breadcrumbs.
- Start by taking an onion ring, dip it into the flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the egg, allowing the excess to drip away. Finally, coat the ring with breadcrumbs, pressing down lightly to ensure it adheres. Repeat with all onion rings.
Cooking
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray. Arrange the coated onion rings in a single layer, making sure they are not touching each other.
- Air fry the onion rings for about 10-12 minutes. At the halfway mark, shake the basket or flip the rings for even cooking.
Serving
- When golden brown and crispy, remove the onion rings and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
For gluten-free options, substitute gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs. Monitor cooking time for thicker onion rings. If the coating doesn't stick, add a little water to the eggs and ensure the onions are well-dried.
