Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup milk (dairy or a Halal-friendly plant-based alternative)
  • 1 egg Can be substituted with flaxseed meal or unsweetened applesauce.
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (or a Halal-friendly substitute)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Topping
  • powdered sugar for dusting Optional

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon. Whisk until everything is evenly mixed.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix; just combine until there are no dry spots.
  4. Lightly flour your countertop and turn out the dough. Pat it down gently, about 1/2 inch thick. Use a donut cutter or two round cookie cutters (one larger for the outer ring and one smaller for the inner hole) to cut out donut shapes.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease the air fryer basket with a non-stick spray or oil.
  2. Arrange the donuts in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not touch. Air fry for 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  3. Once done, remove the donuts carefully and allow them to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar, if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For a healthier version, use whole wheat flour. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or freeze for up to a month. Reheat in the air fryer for 3-4 minutes.
