Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup cornmeal Use fresh cornmeal for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup milk Regular milk.
  • 1 cup buttermilk Provides a tangy flavor.
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted Can substitute with plant-based butter if needed.
  • 2 pieces eggs Large eggs.
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder Ensure freshness for best results.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Whisk together until evenly mixed.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the milk, buttermilk, melted butter, and eggs together until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are perfectly fine.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased cast-iron skillet or baking dish.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cornbread to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve it warm on its own or with a spread of butter or honey.

Notes

For perfect cornbread, use fresh ingredients and avoid overmixing. Experiment with flavors like cheese or jalapeños, and adjust recipes if needed for dietary requirements.
