Ingredients

Mochi Dough Ingredients
  • 1 cup glutinous rice flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup strawberries, pureed
Filling
  • 6 whole whole strawberries
For Dusting
  • as needed Cornstarch For dusting to prevent sticking.

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by pureeing a half-cup of fresh strawberries until smooth. Set this aside; it will add a burst of flavor to your mochi!
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of glutinous rice flour and 1/4 cup of sugar until well combined.
  3. Gradually add 1/2 cup of water to the dry mixture, stirring continuously until you have a smooth batter. Add in the strawberry puree and mix thoroughly.
  4. Pour this mixture into a heatproof dish and steam for about 15-20 minutes until it becomes translucent and sticky. Make sure to cover it with a lid!
Shaping and Serving
  1. Once it’s done, let it cool for a few minutes. Dust a clean surface with cornstarch to prevent sticking.
  2. Take small portions of the cooled dough and flatten them into circles. Place a whole strawberry in the center, then carefully wrap the dough around it, sealing it completely.
  3. Dust the finished mochi with a bit more cornstarch to prevent sticking. Your Delicious Strawberry Mochi is ready to serve!

Notes

Experiment with flavors such as mango or blueberries. Timing is key for steaming; do not rush it. Avoid overmixing the dough to maintain a soft consistency. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator, best to consume within 3 days.
