Method
Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Mix the dry ingredients well.
- In a small bowl, dissolve 1 packet of active dry yeast in 3/4 cup of warm milk, and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it froths.
- Add the melted butter, egg, and mashed bananas to the yeast mixture. Stir until well combined, then gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, knead for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 30-45 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
Filling and Assembling
- In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, chopped walnuts, and cinnamon.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle approximately 1/4 inch thick.
- Sprinkle the filling mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough. Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log.
- Slice the log into 12 equal rolls and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
- Cover the rolls and allow them to rise for an additional 30 minutes until they puff up.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for about 25-30 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Allow the rolls to cool slightly before drizzling with your favorite glaze.
Notes
Store leftover rolls in an airtight container for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze tightly wrapped for up to 2 months. Reheat in a warm oven or microwave.
