Ingredients

For the Pastry
  • 1 package puff pastry (approximately 17.3 ounces; thawed)
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
For the Cream Cheese Filling
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Optional Toppings
  • 1/4 cup fresh fruit (such as berries, optional)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This step is crucial for a perfectly baked bun.
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into squares, about 4 inches by 4 inches.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract to the cream cheese. Mix until fully incorporated.
Assembly
  1. Place a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square. Fold the corners of the pastry toward the center, pinching them together to form a bun.
  2. Place each shaped bun onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with beaten egg to give them a lovely golden color when baked.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed.
  2. Once out of the oven, let the buns cool slightly. Top with fresh fruit and dust with powdered sugar if desired. Enjoy while warm!

Notes

To keep your buns fresh, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days. They can be frozen for up to three months; reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-12 minutes.
