Method
Mixing the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. In a separate cup, dissolve the instant yeast in the warm water. Gradually add the yeast mixture to the flour, stirring to combine until a ragged dough forms.
Kneading
- Once combined, gently knead the dough in the bowl for about 2 minutes. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle a bit of flour on your hands as needed.
First Rise
- Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and allow it to rise at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours.
Shaping
- Flour a clean surface and gently turn the dough out. With floured hands, shape it into a round loaf, placing it on a floured surface or parchment paper.
Second Rise
- Cover the dough again for about 1 hour. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) about 30 minutes before the second rise is complete.
Baking
- Once heated, place the bread (with parchment paper) onto a baking stone or baking sheet. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
Cooling
- Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing. Enjoy!
Notes
Wrap freshly baked bread in a clean kitchen towel or keep it in a paper bag at room temperature for up to 3 days. Slice and freeze for longer storage.
