Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, warm water, and sugar. Add the yeast and allow it to bloom for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In another bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the well and add the softened butter. Mix until a rough dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased bread pan and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Brush the top of the dough with the beaten egg for a shiny finish.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. A hollow sound when tapped on the bottom indicates it's done.
- Allow it to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Tips for perfecting Croissant Bread include not rushing the rises, keeping ingredients at room temperature, using a light hand when adding flour, and experimenting with flavors like herbs or cheese. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or in the freezer for about a month.
