Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 6 cups peeled and diced apples (mix of sweet and tart varieties) Use a mix of Honeycrisp and Granny Smith for complexity.

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Adjust to taste; can substitute with honey or maple syrup.
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg Optional, for extra warmth.
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice Helps to brighten the flavors.

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel, core, and dice the apples into uniform pieces to ensure even cooking.
Cooking
  1. Combine the diced apples, water, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and lemon juice in the crockpot. Stir gently to mix.
  2. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or high for 3 to 4 hours.
Finishing
  1. Once apples are tender, use a potato masher or immersion blender to reach desired consistency.
  2. Let the applesauce cool before transferring to airtight containers.

Notes

Store in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze for up to six months. Reheat using stovetop or microwave to retain texture. Avoid using too much water while cooking.
