Preparation
- Boil the Potatoes: Begin by peeling and cutting the potatoes into quarters. Place them in a pot of salted water and bring them to a boil. Cook until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Mash and Season: Drain the potatoes and allow them to cool slightly. In a large mixing bowl, mash the potatoes until smooth, then season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. If you’d like to add cheese, mix it in at this stage.
- Shape the Balls: Take about a tablespoon of the potato mixture and shape it into a ball. Continue until all the mixture is shaped.
- Coat with Breadcrumbs: Roll each ball in breadcrumbs to ensure a beautiful crispy coating.
- Fry: Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the potato balls in batches. Fry until they’re golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove them and place them on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Serve: Enjoy hot, preferably with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Top Tips for Perfecting Crispy Potato Balls: If you wish to avoid cheese, feel free to add finely chopped herbs like parsley or cilantro for added flavor. Make sure not to overcrowd the frying pan; this will ensure they cook evenly and get that desired crisp. If your mixture seems too wet, add a little extra breadcrumbs or allow your mashed potatoes to cool longer. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, use the oven at 375°F for about 10-15 minutes or an air fryer at 350°F for around 8 minutes.
