Method
Preparation of Onions
- Start by peeling the onions and slicing them into thick rings, about a quarter-inch wide.
Soaking the Onions
- Place the onion rings in a bowl and pour in the buttermilk, allowing them to soak for at least 15 minutes.
Coating the Rings
- In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- After the soaking time, remove the onion rings from the buttermilk and lightly coat each ring in the flour mixture.
Optional Breadcrumb Coating
- For an extra crunch, dip the coated onion rings in breadcrumbs until they are fully covered.
Frying
- Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches around 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully place the onion rings in the hot oil, frying them in batches for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.
Draining
- Remove the fried onion rings and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
Serving
- Serve your Crispy Onion Ring Chips warm, and enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce!
