Method
Preparation
- Begin by pressing and draining the tofu to remove excess moisture. Cube it into bite-sized pieces.
- In a large bowl, mix together cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Toss the cubed tofu in this mixture until evenly coated.
Cooking
- In a skillet, heat a generous amount of oil over medium-high heat. You want enough to cover the bottom of the pan well, but not so much that the tofu is deep frying.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully add the tofu cubes. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown and crispy. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.
Finishing Touches
- While the tofu is frying, heat the hot honey in a small saucepan over low heat until it’s warm and easily pourable.
- Once the tofu is fried, remove it from the pan and drain on paper towels. Transfer it to a serving dish, drizzle with hot honey, and toss to coat.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped green onions on top if desired, and serve immediately.
Notes
Press the tofu well for the best texture. Don't skip the cornstarch for crunch. Adjust the heat level of the hot honey as preferred. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
