  • 1 30 oz bag frozen shredded hash browns, thawed
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, or a blend) Choose your favorite cheese blend.
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup Can substitute with cream of mushroom for a vegetarian option.
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped Sauté for enhanced flavor if using fresh.
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted For greasing the dish.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed hash browns, shredded cheese, sour cream, cream of chicken soup, chopped onion, melted butter, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with a little butter or cooking spray.
  4. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly across the dish.
  5. Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  6. Let the casserole cool slightly before serving. Enjoy it warm as a hearty meal or a delicious side!

Notes

For a crunchy top, consider broiling the casserole for a few minutes at the end. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat by thawing overnight and baking at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes.
