Ingredients

For the steak
  • 4 pieces cube steak Ensure that all ingredients are halal-friendly
  • 1 cup buttermilk For marinating the steak
For the breading
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For dredging the steak
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Oil for frying Around 1 inch in a large skillet

Method

Marinating the Steak
  1. Place the cube steaks in a bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to tenderize the meat.
Preparing the Breading
  1. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.
Coating the Steak
  1. Remove the steak from the buttermilk, allowing any excess liquid to drip off. Dredge each piece of steak in the flour mixture.
Frying the Steak
  1. In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of oil over medium-high heat until hot. Test by dropping a small piece of flour into the oil; if it sizzles, it’s ready.
  2. Carefully add the coated steaks to the hot oil and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
Serving
  1. Once cooked, remove the steaks and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Serve hot.

Notes

To keep leftovers, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 10-15 minutes to preserve the crunch.
